Press Release Summary: Once upon a time, children at kindergartens were expected to learn how to sit still. Now preschoolers have to master science concepts and literacy skills. But how parents can help them?
Press Release Body: What should I do to ensure that my kid grows up to be a happy, successful and healthy individual? This is the type of question that the majority of parents ask themselves every day. Where is that "Raising a Kid for Dummies" book that would provide me with all the answers to all those questions that I have to deal with every day? Well, babies come without manuals and keep us on the question mark all the time.
As we become more advanced in science and technology, surprisingly, all those advances that should make our lives easier, on a contrary, seem to consume all our time and make us even busier. It is difficult to imagine life without the Internet and email, washing machines and DVD players, microwaves and blenders. How our grandparents and even parents managed to survive without them? We don't have to get off the couch to turn on the TV or change a channel, but when we look at that remote control that makes our life so comfortable, it seems that we all must have some kind of science degree to operate it.
So, what it's like to be growing up in the world full of buttons, clicks and screens? High tech has found its way to the toy industry as well. The market is full of state-of-the-art toys with sound, light, movements, and all kind of unimaginable effects and tricks that surely delight every child and contribute to their development. Even though we still love that classic rocking horse, we realize that it's not enough for today's children. Their experiences have to be wider and deeper.
But what about the children's book industry? Does it offer a wider and deeper selection of books to stimulate growing minds and prepare them for all the challenges in their future formal education? Even though the bookstores' shelves are full of colourful stories that are fun and moral enhancing, you won't find too many fiction stories (if any) with a purpose of introduction to science subjects.
Fadi and Lyudmila Hamka started The Little Columbus Company (www.little-columbus.com) when they discovered that there were very few books available to help them share their love of science with their young children. Books, that are fun, suitable for little readers, and at the same time informative and educational. Their own children's curiosity and a high desire for knowledge inspired them to write stories that would meet children's intellectual and creative needs, provide opportunities for mental challenges as well as learning through play. With the publication of their first book "Discovering Gravity" from a series of science books for toddlers and preschoolers, they arm to deliver the best educational start in life for every child. The second book, titled "Discovering Light" will be published in few weeks. They are planning to introduce at least 4 new titles in the next 4 months.
